Kumkumadi oil is a classical Ayurvedic face oil traditionally used to brighten dull skin, soften the look of dark spots and even out skin tone. Used at night, 2–4 drops on clean skin, it works best as a slow, consistent ritual rather than a quick fix. Most people notice a softer, more even glow within 4–8 weeks, while pigmentation takes longer.
If you want to know whether kumkumadi face oil is worth it, how to use it without making your skin greasy, or whether kumkumadi oil for pigmentation actually works, this guide answers all three. We keep it honest: what the oil does, what the evidence says, and what it can't do.
The name comes from kumkuma, a Sanskrit word for saffron. It is a traditional recipe that is slowly cooked into a base oil.
Our Kumkumadi Face Oil draws inspiration from the classical Kumkumadi tailam and blended with Mandarin orange essential oil. It is made for skin that looks dull, uneven or tired, and it helps nourish the skin while supporting a more radiant, even-looking complexion. Lightweight and easy to add to your night ritual, it leaves skin feeling conditioned and naturally luminous.
Think of it less as a moisturiser and more as a leave-on treatment oil: a few drops, massaged in and left to work overnight.

Kumkumadi Oil has multifold benefits, here are a few:
Kumkumadi Oil is traditionally used to bring back radiance. The gentle massage boosts circulation which makes the skin often look fresh right after application.
The Anvaya Kumkumadi Oil has been tested in an in-vitro study (Human cell line study) for its effect on melanin inhibition, the pigment behind dark spots. The pigmentation section below explains what the study shows.
With regular use, patchy tone caused by sun exposure, old marks and dullness can look more uniform over time.
The oil base conditions the skin, so rough or dry patches feel smoother. If dryness is your main concern, our anti-ageing and dryness range pairs well with it.
Kumkumadi Oil nourishes and conditions the skin, while Mandarin Orange Essential Oil adds a fresh, uplifting note and supports a clearer-looking skin
Kumkumadi Oil leaves skin feeling conditioned and naturally luminous, and the fresh aroma of Mandarin Orange Essential Oil makes it a pleasant part of your night ritual.
What it does not do: kumkumadi oil is a cosmetic product, not a medicine. It will not cure melasma, acne or any skin condition.

Kumkumadi oil is a blend of 30 natural ingredients which is mentioned in the ayurvedic texts for.

Apply 2–4 drops of kumkumadi oil to clean skin at night, before your moisturiser. Massage gently until absorbed and leave it on overnight. The steps below make the routine easy to follow.
Cleanse. Use a gentle cleanser and pat your face dry.
Toner (optional). Our Radiance Face Toner is made with pure steam-distilled rose water to hydrate the skin and balance its pH after cleansing.
Take 2–4 drops. Start with 2 drops and go up to 4 if your skin feels dry. Warm the oil between your palms before application.
Gently massage. Gently massage the oil onto your cheeks, forehead, nose and chin, in upward and outward direction for one to two minutes. Spend a little extra time on dull patches or dark spots. Keep it away from your eyes.
Moisturise. Follow with a light moisturiser, so the oil sits closer to the skin. For mature or dry skin, our Timeless Radiance Anti Ageing Cream is a good partner.
Leave it on overnight. Leave the oil and moisturiser overnight, and cleanse your face as usual in the morning.
How often?
Use it daily at night. If your skin is sensitive, begin every other night for the first week.
Can I use it in the morning?
For best results, use it at night.

Anvaya's Kumkumadi Face Oil was tested in an in-vitro (human cell line study) pigmentation study that measured its effect on melanin inhibition, the pigment that gives skin its colour.
Result: Anvaya’s Kumkumadi Face Oil showed up to 40.37% melanin inhibition at 500 µg/mL. Read more about our research on the Our Science page.
What this means: The study shows that Anvaya’s Kumkumadi face Oil suppresses melanogenesis, thereby helping in pigmentation issues. Beyond addressing pigmentation, it supports overall skin health.

Most disappointing results come down to a handful of avoidable habits.
● Using too much. More drops don't speed things up; they just leave a greasy pillowcase. Stay within 2–4 drops.
● Skipping the patch test. Dab a little on your inner forearm or behind the ear and wait 24 hours before using it on your face.
● Applying close to the eyes. Oil can sting if it gets in.
● Stopping and starting. Skin renews on a monthly rhythm, so on-and-off use makes results hard to judge.
Realistic timeline: skin usually feels softer within the first couple of weeks. A visible difference in glow and tone typically takes 4–8 weeks of regular use, and results vary with skin type, concern and consistency.
Who should check first? Speak to a doctor before use if you are pregnant or nursing, have a skin condition such as eczema, or have a known allergy to citrus or essential oils (the formula includes mandarin orange essential oil).
A few quick checks separate a genuine formula from an expensive-looking bottle.
● Read the ingredient list. Kumkumadi Oil should be named clearly, not hidden behind "fragrance" or "herbal extract".
● Ask what the claims rest on. Honest brands say whether a claim comes from a lab study, volunteer feedback or traditional use.
● Be wary of very low prices. Authentic Kumkumadi oil is costly to make, so an unusually cheap bottle may contain very little of it.

It may help fade the appearance of dark spots with consistent use, but it does not remove them overnight or guarantee a result.
Night is the recommended time for best results.
